Our actions - Our work for ethical Artificial Intelligence
At Ethikon Institute, we develop initiatives that bridge technological innovation with ethical responsibility. Through our interdisciplinary approach, we aim to promote a human-centered Artificial Intelligence that serves the common good and respects the fundamental rights of all.

Research
The research work of Ethikon Institute focuses on studying ethical and responsible approaches to Artificial Intelligence, following an interdisciplinary approach that combines ethics, legal compliance, and technical analysis. The goal of our research is to develop theoretical and practical frameworks that promote transparency, accountability, and respect for human rights and values in the development and use of Artificial Intelligence.
Ethikon Institute collaborates closely with research centers and universities, participating in national and European programs, such as 'Research-Create-Innovate,' 'Erasmus+,' 'Horizon Europe,' and 'Creative Europe,' promoting interdisciplinary knowledge exchange and policy-making for ethical artificial intelligence.

Policy Making & Public Consultation Participation
Ethikon Institute actively participates in policy-making for Artificial Intelligence, combining scientific evidence, ethical principles, and legal expertise. Through interventions in public consultations, the Ethikon Institute team submits specialized proposals that contribute to the responsible, transparent, and human-centered regulation of AI.

Social Awareness
Ethikon Institute contributes to the formation of an informed and responsible public regarding Artificial Intelligence and its impacts on society. Through targeted initiatives, Ethikon Institute promotes open dialogue between the scientific community, governments, businesses, and citizens, ensuring that the voices of all stakeholders are taken into account.
Projects - Innovation with Principles
At Ethikon Institute, our commitment to promoting ethical Artificial Intelligence is realized through concrete projects and initiatives. Each of our projects reflects our interdisciplinary approach and our ambition to make a meaningful contribution to shaping a responsible digital future. From research activity and participation in policy-making, to the development of innovative tools and education, we strive to bridge the gap between technology, law, and society.

Research: Who Owns the Output? Bridging Law and Technology in LLMs Attribution
After months of intensive interdisciplinary research, the Ethikon Institute research team published the paper titled 'Who Owns the Output? Bridging Law and Technology in LLMs Attribution' on arXiv (April 2025). This publication is the culmination of the Institute's efforts to bridge the technological, legal, and ethical issues related to the attribution of outputs generated by Large Language Models (LLMs) and Multimodal Models (LMMs).
The research focuses on the issue of traceability and attribution of content generated by Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), highlighting the multiple obstacles that make it difficult to link generated content to original data sources. Through an analytical review of existing legislation and current technical tools, the study proposes a new legal-technological framework that ensures accountability and the protection of creators' rights.
This research is part of the broader work of the Ethikon Institute, aiming to develop a reliable attribution mechanism for GenAI models, with the goal of enhancing transparency, accountability, and the protection of creative works within an ethical and human-centered framework.

Public Consultation
Ethikon Institute participated in the European Commission's public consultation regarding the Guidelines for the Definition of Artificial Intelligence Systems and the Prohibited Practices under Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (AI Act).

Citizen Search Engine
As part of its social mission, Ethikon Institute has developed the 'Citizen Search Engine', an innovative application that redefines knowledge search for citizens. Functioning as an AI-library, the Citizen Search Engine aggregates reliable online academic sources and rare books from Greek libraries, many of which are not available to the general public via the Internet. The application allows users to ask questions and receive complex, well-documented, and non-biased answers generated by LLMs (Large Language Models).
At the same time, full respect for third-party intellectual property and ownership rights is ensured, thanks to our strategic partnerships with institutes and libraries that allow us access to and integration of their data into the Citizen Search Engine.

AI Comic
Ethikon Institute is preparing the first Greek comic about Artificial Intelligence, aimed at children aged 10 and above. The goal of the comic is to help children understand the basic principles of Artificial Intelligence, while also raising their awareness about the ethical dilemmas and challenges that accompany the use of new technologies. Through a creative and interactive narrative, children learn the importance of responsible use of Artificial Intelligence and how to think critically about its ethical dimension.
